Bible Text: Psalm 115:1
Psalm 115:1 declares, “Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake.” This powerful Scripture reminds us that the main purpose of every blessing, opportunity, achievement, and position of influence is to bring glory to God. Whenever God gives a person a platform, whether in leadership, ministry, business, politics, education, or any other sphere of life, He entrusts that individual with an opportunity to reveal His goodness and demonstrate His faithfulness. A platform is not merely a stage for personal recognition or an avenue for public admiration. It is a divine responsibility that requires humility, wisdom, and a sincere commitment to God's purpose. Therefore, when God elevates you, your first response should not be to celebrate your own greatness, but to acknowledge the One whose grace made your elevation possible.
One of the greatest dangers associated with success and influence is the temptation to take credit for what God has enabled us to accomplish. When people begin to recognise our efforts, applaud our achievements, and seek our opinions, pride can gradually take root in our hearts. We may begin to believe that our intelligence, connections, qualifications, or personal abilities are solely responsible for our success. However, Deuteronomy 8:18 reminds us that it is God who gives us the power to get wealth. This does not diminish the importance of hard work, discipline, or personal responsibility. Rather, it teaches us to recognise that our abilities, opportunities, strength, and wisdom
depend on God's grace. King Nebuchadnezzar learned this lesson when his pride led him to boast about his achievements, as recorded in Daniel 4:30. His experience demonstrates that human greatness becomes dangerous when it is separated from humility and gratitude. Never allow the applause of people to make you forget the God who opened the doors through which you entered.
Furthermore, God gives people platforms not merely for their personal advancement but also to become instruments of positive transformation in the lives of others. Every position of influence carries an opportunity to serve, encourage, uplift, and inspire. Jesus declared in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” This means that our lives should point people towards God's goodness through our conduct, decisions, and service. If God has given you a voice, use it to speak truth and encourage righteousness. If He has entrusted you with leadership, govern with fairness and compassion. If He has blessed your business, create opportunities and treat people honestly. If He has given you influence in your community, use it to promote peace, justice, and development. Your platform becomes truly meaningful when the people around you experience the goodness of God through the way you use your position.
Moreover, giving God the glory requires faithful stewardship of the opportunities He has entrusted to us. A platform is not a possession to be exploited for selfish interests; it is a responsibility to be managed with wisdom and accountability. Luke 12:48 teaches that to whom much is given, much will be required. This principle reminds us that greater influence comes with greater responsibility. God expects us to be trustworthy with the resources, privileges, talents, and opportunities placed in our hands. We must resist the temptation to misuse authority, manipulate others, pursue selfish ambitions, or compromise our convictions for personal gain. First Corinthians 4:2 declares, “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” Faithfulness means doing what is right even when there is no public recognition, serving others without expecting applause, and remaining committed to God's principles when compromise appears more convenient. The true value of a platform is not measured by the number of people who celebrate its holder, but by the faithfulness with which its responsibilities are discharged.
Another important lesson is that giving God the glory does not mean denying our efforts or pretending that we have accomplished nothing. Rather, it means acknowledging that our accomplishments are made possible by His grace. In 1 Corinthians 15:10, Apostle Paul declared, “But by the grace of God I am what I am.” Paul laboured diligently in his ministry, endured hardship, and remained committed to his calling, yet he recognised that God's grace was the foundation of his accomplishments. In the same way, we should pursue excellence, develop our abilities, and work diligently while maintaining a grateful heart. When people commend your achievements, receive their appreciation with humility and acknowledge God's goodness. When opportunities arise, give thanks. When challenges come, depend on His wisdom. When success is recorded, remember His faithfulness. Gratitude keeps the heart grounded and protects us from the destructive belief that we are entirely self-made. Whatever we achieve, we should never allow our accomplishments to become an excuse for pride or self-exaltation.
It is also important to understand that a God-given platform may attract criticism, jealousy, opposition, and misunderstanding. Not everyone will appreciate the work you do, and not everyone will celebrate the opportunities God gives you. Nevertheless, the desire to receive praise from people must never become greater than the desire to honour God. Galatians 1:10 challenges us to examine whether we are seeking the approval of human beings or striving to please God. When your platform is established on divine purpose, you must remain focused on your assignment rather than becoming distracted by the changing opinions of people. Do not compromise the truth to win popularity, abandon your principles to secure acceptance, or engage in unnecessary rivalry to prove your worth. Instead, maintain integrity, exercise humility, and continue to serve faithfully. John the Baptist expressed this attitude beautifully in John 3:30 when he declared, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” This should be the disposition of everyone who desires to use their influence for God's glory.
Beloved, whenever God gives you a platform, make His glory your highest priority. Remember that positions are temporary, human applause is fleeting, and earthly achievements cannot compare with the eternal greatness of God. The influence you possess today should become an opportunity to demonstrate His character, advance His purpose, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Let your leadership reflect His wisdom, your words communicate truth, and your actions demonstrate compassion and integrity. Whether your platform is large or small, visible or hidden, use it faithfully and never claim for yourself the glory that belongs to Him alone. As Psalm 115:1 teaches, the glory belongs to God because of His mercy and truth. Therefore, may your life continually testify to His goodness, may your success inspire gratitude rather than pride, and may every opportunity entrusted to you become a channel through which His name is honoured. At the end of your journey, may people remember not merely what you achieved, but how faithfully you used your platform to glorify God.
