The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has been honoured with the prestigious Gideon’s Award Certificate by the American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), in recognition of his legislative activities and advocacy for equality and justice in Nigeria.
The award, presented on Saturday, October 10, 2026, recognises Aguocha as the Best Igbo Parliamentarian for 2026, according to a press release issued by his Media Team. The honour shows the organisation’s recognition of his public service and his contributions to issues affecting the people he represents, as well as the broader Igbo community.
In its citation accompanying the award, AVID commended the federal lawmaker for his “documented sacrifices, zeal, and perseverance in speaking truth to power, concerning equality for all in Nigeria.” The organisation noted that these attributes align with its mission and constitute a source of credit to the recipient, while presenting him as a worthy example for emulation by others.
The recognition also highlights the importance of legislative representation, principled advocacy and sustained engagement with matters of public interest. For Aguocha, the award adds to the recognition of his activities in the National Assembly and his stated commitment to promoting the welfare and interests of his constituents.
According to the statement, Aguocha’s legislative responsibilities have been guided by a commitment to equity, justice and the needs of the people. His Media Team described the honour as a reflection of the diligence, courage and perseverance he has brought to his work in the House of Representatives, particularly in advocating for fairness and the advancement of the people he represents.
The lawmaker has also reiterated his commitment to advancing the interests of his constituency and Abia State through effective legislation, robust representation and continuous engagement with the people. His office maintained that the recognition would further inspire his dedication to public service and his responsibility to address issues affecting his constituents.
The Media Team of Hon. Aguocha expressed appreciation to the American Veterans of Igbo Descent for the recognition, while also acknowledging the support and confidence of constituents, whom it described as a continuing source of motivation for the lawmaker’s service.
The AVID Gideon’s Award adds to the public recognition of Aguocha’s parliamentary activities and brings attention to the role of diaspora organisations in acknowledging the contributions of public officeholders to governance, representation and the pursuit of equality in Nigeria.
