The Executive Mayor of Ikwuano Local Government council, Dr Anthony .N. Nwaubani, has urged youths in the area to utilise the proposed federal grant under the Youth Economic International and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP) judiciously, emphasising the importance of channelling financial support into productive ventures that can promote economic independence and sustainable livelihoods.

The Mayor gave the advice through a message conveyed on his behalf during the official flag-off of the YEIDEP programme in Ikwuano on Friday, October 23, 2026. The event, held at the Ikwuano Council Hall, attracted a large gathering of youths from across the local government area who turned out to participate in the initiative and complete the necessary documentation for the anticipated grant.

Although Dr Nwaubani was absent from the ceremony due to other official engagements, his wife, Mrs Princess Nnenna Nwaubani, represented him at the event. The Deputy Mayor, Hon. Lucky Awuwa, was also present, alongside youth leaders and other stakeholders involved in the programme.

The Mayor's message highlighted the need for beneficiaries to approach the anticipated financial assistance with a sense of responsibility and a clear vision for its utilisation. He urged the youths to see the grant as an opportunity to improve their economic circumstances, develop viable business ideas and pursue productive activities capable of generating income and creating sustainable opportunities.

The flag-off also featured remarks by the Abia State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Engr. Smith O. Sylivanus, who highlighted the purpose of the grant and its potential role in supporting youth empowerment. The Abia State Secretary of the council, Engr. Prince Iroabueke, was also in attendance, lending further participation from youth development stakeholders.

As part of the exercise, participating youths were issued bank account opening forms to complete in line with the requirements for the grant process. The designated accounts are intended to facilitate the receipt of the funds when disbursement takes place, while the beneficiaries await further details on verification and payment arrangements.

Dr Nwaubani's message reflects the importance of responsible financial management in youth empowerment initiatives. As the YEIDEP process advances in Ikwuano, the emphasis remains on ensuring that prospective beneficiaries are adequately informed and prepared to use any funds received to support productive economic activities and improve their livelihoods.
