The American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID) has called on the people of Abia State to re-elect Gov. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, in the 2027 general elections, citing their respective records of performance, purposeful leadership and commitment to public service.

The organisation made the call in a strongly worded press release dated October 29, 2026, in which it expressed confidence in the leadership of both public office holders and urged Abians to sustain what it described as the progress already recorded under their respective administrations and representation.

In its assessment of Gov. Otti's administration, AVID observed that within barely three years in office, the governor had demonstrated the impact of purposeful, disciplined and people-centred leadership, transforming a state it described as having inherited impassable roads, crippling debt and systemic decay.

The organisation highlighted the administration's reported completion of over 414 road projects across the state, with several others still under construction. It also commended the renovation and revitalisation of hundreds of primary healthcare centres, expansion of health insurance coverage, restoration of tens of thousands of children to school, and an estimated 70 per cent reduction in the state's debt burden.

AVID further noted that Abia State had recorded significant improvements in national rankings for fiscal transparency and overall performance, maintaining that these achievements were tangible results rather than political promises.

According to the organisation, the developments have contributed to restoring Abia's dignity and strengthening its position as a commercial and industrial hub in the South-East region.

On the federal constituency representation, AVID described Hon. Obi Aguocha as a hardworking and effective legislator whose contributions have extended beyond legislative responsibilities to tangible constituency interventions and sustained advocacy for his constituents.

The group specifically acknowledged his legislative productivity, constituency development projects, educational support initiatives for indigent students and consistent representation of the interests of his people and the broader South-East. It maintained that continuity in his representation was essential to consolidating existing gains and ensuring that Abia's interests remained adequately projected at the federal level.

Making a case for the re-election of both leaders, AVID argued that Gov. Otti's second term would provide the opportunity to institutionalise ongoing reforms, complete critical infrastructure projects and deepen the culture of fiscal responsibility and effective service delivery. Similarly, it stated that returning Hon. Aguocha to the National Assembly would ensure that Abia's voice remained strong, active and results-oriented in federal legislative affairs.

The organisation cautioned Abians against gambling with the progress already recorded, urging eligible voters to look beyond what it described as distractions and manufactured controversies and instead evaluate leadership based on measurable achievements and service delivery.

AVID further maintained that the future prosperity and dignity of Abia State, as well as the broader Igbo nation, depended significantly on continuity in competent leadership and the consolidation of ongoing developmental initiatives.

The press release was signed by Chief Dr. Sylvester Onyia, President; Chief Dr. Godson Obiagwu, Secretary; and Engr. Dr. Chukwuemeka Offor, P.E., Public Relations Officer.

The organisation concluded its appeal with a strong message to the electorate: "Performance must be rewarded. Progress must be sustained."
