The immediate past member representing Umuahia East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, has endorsed the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, for a second term in the National Assembly.
Apugo, who spoke when Hon. Aguocha paid a consultation visit to his country home, described the federal lawmaker as a dependable representative whose interventions and commitment to the welfare and advancement of his constituents had earned him widespread goodwill across the constituency.
The former lawmaker and proprietor of Dannyjoy Group of Schools said the people of Ibeku would rally behind Aguocha in the 2027 election, stressing that the federal lawmaker had made meaningful contributions to the progress and success of several Ibeku sons and daughters. According to him, such acts of support and solidarity would not be forgotten when the people are called upon to make their choice at the polls.
Apugo particularly highlighted Aguocha's consistent solidarity with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who hails from Ibeku. He described Aguocha's position on the matter as an uncommon demonstration of courage, loyalty and commitment to the interests of his people, noting that the lawmaker had remained vocal and unwavering in advocating for Kanu's freedom.
The former legislator maintained that Aguocha's intervention on issues affecting his constituents had gone beyond political rhetoric, arguing that his actions had demonstrated a genuine understanding of representation as a responsibility to the people. He therefore expressed confidence that the goodwill generated by the lawmaker's activities would translate into strong electoral support in 2027.
Apugo further assured Aguocha that he understood the disposition of Ibeku people and was confident that they would reciprocate the goodwill extended to them. He said the people would remember those who stood with them in difficult moments and would reward such commitment by supporting Aguocha's bid to return to the House of Representatives for another term.
Responding, Hon. Obi Aguocha expressed appreciation to Apugo for the endorsement, describing the former lawmaker as a respected son of Ibeku and a man whose words and counsel carried considerable weight. Aguocha said he received the endorsement with humility and regarded it not merely as political support but as a call to deepen his service to the people.
The federal lawmaker said his interventions in the constituency had always been motivated by a sincere desire to improve the lives of the people rather than by the pursuit of personal political gain. He reaffirmed his commitment to educational development, youth empowerment, human capital investment, infrastructure and other initiatives capable of creating sustainable opportunities for constituents.
Aguocha also reiterated his position that public office must be used to defend the dignity, rights and legitimate interests of the people. He said his solidarity with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was rooted in his conviction that justice, due process and the rule of law must remain fundamental principles in addressing matters of such profound importance to the people.
He thanked Apugo and the people of Ibeku for the confidence reposed in him, assuring that he would continue to discharge his responsibilities with courage, humility and diligence. Aguocha noted that whatever progress had been recorded during his first term was the product of collective effort and pledged to do more if given the opportunity to serve for another term.
The endorsement is coming as political consultations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with stakeholders across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South increasingly assessing the performance, accessibility and grassroots impact of political office holders. Apugo's declaration therefore represents a significant expression of confidence in Aguocha's representation and could further strengthen the lawmaker's support base as the 2027 contest approaches.
