Morning Recap: Fubara impeachment move, Dangote refinery–marketers crash, Super Eagles bonus, other top stories

Political tensions in Rivers State dominated Friday morning headlines as leaders of the All Progressives Congress moved to douse a fresh impeachment attempt by the state House of Assembly against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

In the energy sector, a supply deal between the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and 20 major marketers to offtake 600 million litres of petrol monthly collapsed over pricing disagreements, triggering a surge in fuel imports.

Separately, petrol station workers opposed plans by AA Rano to introduce what it described as Nigeria’s first fully automated and unmanned fuel stations.

In sports, Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi, pledged to personally settle players’ and officials’ unpaid match bonuses at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations if the Federal Government failed to do so.

However, the government said the funds had been released and were expected to reflect in the players’ domiciliary accounts on Friday.

Elsewhere, a Canada-based Nigerian was shot and killed inside a bus at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal in Toronto.
