Abia State 2027 governorship aspirant and prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu, has reiterated that his political ambition is driven by an unwavering commitment to public service and a resolute desire to enhance the quality of life for citizens.
Speaking in a telephone interview with National Sunrise, MUK emphasised that authentic leadership must be grounded in empathy, integrity, accountability, and measurable impact rather than the pursuit of personal aggrandisement. He observed that the escalating hardships confronting those at the grassroots, inspired his decision to step forward and dedicate himself to service.
According to him, the erosion of public confidence caused by chronic unfulfilled promises and ineffective governance underscores the urgent need for leaders who genuinely comprehend and respond to the people’s needs.
“My aspiration is borne out of service to the people,” Uzor-Kalu stated. “Leadership is about addressing challenges and improving the lives of our citizens. Witnessing the daily struggles of traders, youths, civil servants, and rural communities, one cannot remain indifferent. It is imperative for someone to rise and lead with sincerity, vision, and purpose.”
Highlighting his professional background, the businessman-turned-politician explained that his experience in the private sector has equipped him with the discipline, strategic foresight, and accountability essential for effective governance. He lamented that these qualities are often absent in public administration, resulting in inefficiencies, waste, and suboptimal utilisation of the nation’s abundant human and natural resources.
“I come from a milieu where outcomes and performance are non-negotiable,” he said.
“In business, your success is measured by efficiency, impact, and tangible results. Governance should be no different. Public resources must translate into visible infrastructure, functional institutions, and opportunities that empower citizens.”
Uzor-Kalu further underscored the necessity of inclusive governance, asserting that women and youths must occupy central roles in decision-making processes. He described the youth population as the driving force of economic growth, warning that neglecting their potential would exacerbate unemployment, insecurity, and social instability.
“Our youths are innovative, energetic, and eager to contribute meaningfully, but they require an enabling environment,” he explained. “Government must intentionally invest in skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and technological innovation. Empowered youths are not just beneficiaries; they are catalysts for a resilient and prosperous society.”
Addressing the dynamics of political opposition in Abia State, Uzor-Kalu asserted that dissent is a vital pillar of a thriving democracy and should never be misconstrued as enmity. He maintained that constructive critique and alternative policy perspectives strengthen governance and ensure leaders remain accountable to the populace.
“Opposition is a cornerstone of democracy, not an act of hostility,” he emphasised. “When leaders are answerable and policies are scrutinised, it benefits everyone. Our collective focus should be on delivering the governance Abians genuinely deserve.”
Concluding the interview, Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu reassured Abians that his political pursuit is rooted in sincerity, strategic vision, and long-term planning. He urged citizens to remain actively engaged and vigilant, highlighting that a robust partnership between leaders and the people is indispensable for sustainable development and the restoration of hope in governance.
