Senator Sunday Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has distributed essential relief materials to internally displaced persons across communities affected by persistent terror attacks in Southern Kaduna.
The lawmaker also extended support to rural health facilities, directing the supply of mattresses, mosquito nets and blankets to selected primary healthcare centres as part of what his office described as ongoing efforts to strengthen basic healthcare delivery in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the Senator during the distribution exercise on Thursday, the Chief of Staff, Aku Joshua-Shai, said Katung remained unwavering in his commitment to easing the hardship of families displaced by violence and helping communities rebuild.
Shai said, “This initiative by Senator Katung is aimed at cushioning the effects of terrorism on affected families and communities. Many households have lost everything, and this intervention is to let them know they are not alone.”
The Senator, in a separate message, stressed the need for compassion, unity and sustained community support as Southern Kaduna continues to grapple with insecurity.
“Our people have suffered unimaginable losses. It is our duty to stand with them, support them, and work tirelessly to restore peace and hope in Southern Kaduna. No community should be left behind in this recovery process,” Katung said.
Party leaders from the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party in Kachia and Kauru Local Government Areas—Engr. Sanusi Jibrin and Garba Stephen Dakut were present at the distribution venues and applauded the Senator’s gesture.
They noted that Katung had consistently prioritised the welfare of his constituents, regardless of political differences.
Jibrin described the intervention as “timely and impactful,” saying the items would bring immediate relief to displaced households facing harsh conditions.
On his part, Dakut also commended the Senator’s multi-sectoral focus, particularly his attention to healthcare needs in underserved rural communities.
The relief items distributed included mattresses, cooking pots, stoves, towels, buckets, soap, detergents, mats, blankets and mosquito nets. Beneficiaries across the affected communities expressed appreciation for the gesture and called for strengthened security to enable them to return to their homes.
Local health workers in the benefiting rural hospitals also welcomed the donation of mattresses and mosquito nets, saying the items would improve patient care and hygiene in the facilities.
