Abia State 2027 governorship aspirant, Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu, has called for a more constructive political environment in the state, emphasizing that opposition should not be mistaken for hostility but rather seen as a vital pillar of democracy.
In a statement issued to reporters on Thursday, Mascot Uzor-Kalu stressed the importance of cooperation, robust debate, and idea-driven engagement in building a better Abia. He noted that true democracy does not flourish where dissenting voices are silenced, but thrives where alternative ideas are respected and allowed to challenge leadership.
“Our democracy becomes stronger when the opposition is allowed to play its rightful role,” he said.
“Being in the opposition does not mean we are enemies of the government. It means we are partners in the search for progress, development, and responsible governance.”
Mascot explained that his call was not about political confrontation but about ensuring that the concerns of citizens are adequately represented. He urged Abians to adopt a more open-minded approach to political engagement.
“Opposition is not hostility,” he noted. “It is a necessary part of any thriving democracy, and my focus is to contribute meaningfully to the dialogue on how we can deliver the governance that Abians truly deserve.”
Reflecting on his ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election, the APC aspirant said his vision is built on economic revitalization, inclusive leadership, and people-centered development.
“I want Abians to know that my ambition is driven by a genuine desire to serve,” Mascot stated.
“Our state has enormous potential, and with the right policies, infrastructure, and leadership mindset, we can unlock opportunities that will benefit everyone.”
He also appealed to political actors across party lines to prioritize the welfare of citizens over personal or partisan rivalry. According to him, Abia’s progress depends on unity of purpose and the willingness of leaders to listen to the people they seek to serve.
“We must put Abia first,” he said.
“We may belong to different political parties, but we all share the same responsibility to protect the future of our state.”
Mascot Uzor-Kalu reiterated that he remains committed to playing his part with maturity and restraint. He expressed confidence that the people of Abia are yearning for a new approach to governance.
“Let us deliver the governance Abians deserve,” he concluded.
“Together, we can build a state where transparency, accountability, and genuine service guide every decision.”
