The people of Ikwuano State Constituency have expressed profound joy and appreciation to Hon. Obi Aguocha, Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, for the significant legislative breakthrough recorded in the ongoing effort to create two new Local Government Areas: Ikwuano North and Ikwuano South.
Their commendation comes shortly after the bill seeking the alteration of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to establish the two new LGAs successfully passed its second reading at the National Assembly. The move marks a historic step toward reshaping the administrative and developmental structure of the region, which has long yearned for expanded representation and increased government presence.
In a statement issued by Hon. Engr. Boniface N. Isienyi, Member representing Ikwuano State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, the lawmaker described the development as a moment of renewed hope and a testament to effective and people-centered representation. He noted that the advancement of the bill is not just a procedural milestone but a major stride toward equitable resource distribution, enhanced political participation, and greater autonomy for communities within the present Ikwuano LGA.
According to Hon. Isienyi, the progress of the bill also reflects the fulfillment of one of Hon. Obi Aguocha’s core campaign promises during the 2023 elections.

He added that the creation of Ikwuano North and Ikwuano LGAs, when eventually assented to by the President, would significantly expand opportunities for the area, bringing government closer to the people, unlocking new economic potentials, and accelerating development in rural communities that have long been underserved.
Community leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders across Ikwuano have also joined in applauding the federal lawmaker. Many described the legislative advancement as a “historic victory” and a long-awaited step toward addressing the infrastructural and administrative pressures associated with the existing single LGA structure.
Residents expressed optimism that the eventual establishment of the new LGAs will lead to improved access to government services, more targeted development projects, and increased employment opportunities for young people across the proposed councils.
